Sustainability in printing is no longer a distant conversation. It is becoming a practical necessity for brands, print service providers and distributors looking for materials capable of supporting more responsible production, without compromising the quality of the applications.
This is where BIOND® is becoming increasingly relevant.
Developed in-house by Digidelta, BIOND® is a range of bio-based printable films created for real production environments. Not as a theoretical alternative, but as a material that printers can integrate into the workflows they already use, with the equipment, processes and application methods they already master.
A bio-based material built for print performance
Since its launch, BIOND® has stood out for combining bio-based content with the handling, printability and stability expected from professional self-adhesive films.
The range is compatible with several printing technologies, including UV LED, UV gel, latex and eco-solvent. This makes adoption easier for print service providers, as there is no need to invest in dedicated equipment or radically change production processes.
For printers, that matters.
Sustainable materials only become relevant at scale when they can be used in real workflows, under real deadlines, and across real applications. BIOND® was developed with that reality in mind.
Real applications, not just certifications
BIOND® is already being used by print service providers in different markets, in applications such as indoor and outdoor signage, window decoration, construction site signage, floor advertising and two-dimensional vehicle decoration.
This practical adoption represents an important milestone for the range. Certification is important, but market confidence is built when materials demonstrate consistent performance in daily production.
The films feature a polymeric structure developed to ensure printability and dimensional stability. They can be stretched during application and offer reliable handling for installers, while the Bubble-Free adhesive system contributes to cleaner, smoother and more efficient installations.
Market demand is changing
For distributors and suppliers, the change is becoming increasingly clear. According to Kim Harris, CEO of Vikiallo APS, a supplier and distributor specialising in printing and signage products in Denmark, sustainability has moved beyond being just a marketing topic to become a real requirement in the Scandinavian printing market.
Major brands are increasingly integrating sustainability into their business strategies, ESG commitments and purchasing decisions. That pressure is now reaching sign makers and print service providers, who need materials capable of responding to new expectations without losing production efficiency.
BIOND® responds to that need by offering a more responsible material option, while maintaining compatibility with standard printing environments.
As Harris explains, one of the reasons for the positive response from customers is the material’s compatibility with existing technologies, such as eco-solvent, UV and latex, as well as its competitive positioning against traditional materials.
Certified bio-based content
Each BIOND® material contains between 80% and 97% bio-based content, created from plant-based sources. These sources absorb CO₂ during growth, contributing to a reduction of more than 80% in the material’s total footprint.
The range has also obtained independent OK biobased certification from TÜV Austria, confirming the bio-based credentials of the materials.
This gives print service providers and brands an additional layer of confidence when specifying BIOND® for more responsible visual communication projects.
A material-first approach to more sustainable printing
For Digidelta, BIOND® is not about asking printers to make compromises. It is about offering a material that supports more sustainable production while maintaining the performance standards required by professional applications.
“One of the most important aspects of BIOND® is that printers can adopt it immediately in their current production environments”, says Armando Mota, CEO of Digidelta. “They do not need new machines, new training or new workflows. They simply move to a more sustainable material while continuing to deliver the high-quality applications their customers expect.”
That is what makes BIOND® relevant.
It is not just a certified material. It is a production-ready solution, designed for printers who want to move towards more responsible applications without slowing down their business.
The future of print materials is already in production
As regulation evolves and brands pay closer attention to material choices, bio-based films are expected to play an increasingly important role in the printing industry.
BIOND® is already demonstrating that this transition can happen within existing workflows, with real applications, real customers and real results in production.
Sustainability becomes stronger when it is practical.
And BIOND® was created to be used.
